Another week, another matchup of top-five teams for the Colony Knights.
Colony (3-0) hosts Juneau (3-0) Friday at 7 p.m. at Colony High School, a highlight of Alaska’s fourth week of the high school football schedule. The game features the state’s top two Division I teams, according to the latest Alaska Sports Broadcasting Network poll. Juneau is ranked first this week. Colony, despite a 21-14 win over Dimond, dropped from first to second this week. The Knights were elevated to No,. 1 following a win over defending state champion East Anchorage during the third week of the season.
Colony is one of three undefeated teams in the Valley. Wasilla is also 3-0 and hosts West Valley Friday at 7 p.m. Houston (2-0) will play at Kodiak Friday at 6 p.m.
Wasilla is ranked third in ASBN’s Division II/III poll.
In other action, Palmer is at Chugiak Thursday at 7 p.m. and Redington is at North Pole Friday.
Last week, Colony used a late score to cap a 21-14 come-from-behind victory over Dimond. Wasilla scored its third straight lopsided win of the season, beating North Pole 39-6.
Knights all-around junior standout Jack Nash was a star on both sides of the ball. Nash picked off four Dimond passes, and returned an interception 51 yards for a score that decided the game. Nash, a first-year starting quarterback, also rushed for a team-high 198 yards and a touchdown. Running back Shayne Holladay added 70 yards rushing and a touchdown.
Diamond jumped out to a 14-0 first-quarter lead. The Colony defense held the Lynx scoreless during the final three quarters, and posted 14 points in the fourth.
The Knights won their third straight in Cook Inlet Conference play.
Quarterback Jaidas Huffman threw for three touchdowns and rushed for another during Wasilla’s win over the Patriots at Wasilla High.. Izk Puntero led the Warriors with 106 yards rushing and two touchdowns.
Timothy Grisso caught two passes for 103 yards and two touchdowns. Keegan Freezell also caught a touchdown pass.
In other action, Kenai scored 24 unanswered points to beat Palmer 24-6. Eagle River beat Redington 43-0.
Kayson Asay led the Moose with 101 yards rushing on 20 carries. Landon Kitzman ran for Palmer’s lone score.
Houston had a bye week.
