Three vehicle accident sends three to hospital

WASILLA — Shortly before 5 p.m. Friday Alaska State Troopers and West Lakes Rescue personnel responded to a three-vehicle accident on the Parks Highway near Museum Drive in Wasilla.

According to troopers on scene a semi truck traveling south near Mile 47 of the Parks was struck by a Dodge Durango traveling north. The Durango hit the truck near its gas tank, sending in out of control. The semi truck began to lose control and slide on the ice and snow covered road where it collided with a Jeep.

The Durango continued north bouncing off the guardrails and finally coming to a rest about 75 yards past the initial collision with the truck.

According to troopers both occupants of the Jeep suffered serious injuries and were transported by ambulance to the hospital.

West Lakes rescue personnel extricated a male passenger from the Dodge Durango. He was also transported to the hospital. The driver of the semi truck was not injured.

The Parks Highway was closed until 6:30 while troopers investigated the scene and towing crews worked to clear the vehicles. Troopers said weather and slick roads were a contributing factor.

Troopers say they responded to 65 road incidents between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. today.
