WASILLA — The Wasilla-Knik Historical Society’s annual Alaska Day dinner and famous dessert auction — always a sell-out — will be held in a new location this year due to public demand for tickets and the limited space in the past location, the Herning-Teeland-Mead building in Wasilla.
The event this year is 6 p.m., Oct. 18 at the Palmer Elks’ Lodge, 2600 North Barry’s Resort Road.
This historic dinner is the Society¹s main fundraiser; Proceeds from the dessert auction go toward the support of the Knik Museum at Mile 13.9, Knik-Goose Bay Road. Well-known auctioneer John Hett will be at the podium once again, keeping the auction action lively.
The fare: European-trained Chef Marian Romano¹s chicken with porcini cream sauce, while soft dinner music will be provided by the three-piece Swingin’ Ravens band. Bandleader John McKimmey is a Connselmer artist, an honor and recognition comparable to a Pulitzer prize in the world of journalism. Presentations will be given by Mat-Su Borough archeologist Fran Seager-Boss on the life of Jujiro Wada, and Alaska Borough of Land Management archeologist Robert King telling tales of long-distance dog mushing from Alaska in the early 1900s.
Donated desserts of all kinds — cakes, pies, cookies, jellies and jams, candies, are always welcome for auctioning. Many of the cookie jars auctioned one year show up the next year; some have been circulating for 10 or more years.
Join your friends and neighbors for a fun-filled evening and excellent supper while supporting a worthwhile cause.
The dinner is $35.
