Time ticks by…

Wow time has a way of ticking on by. My blogging has been happening a lot less often than I planned for it to. We started this challenge 4, almost 5 weeks ago now and when I started I honestly believed that I would blog something every single day. As of right now, before I post this one, I think there are less than 12 blogs associated with my name. I started out wanting to do at least one per day and then I posted some big blogs, with lots of information, so I kind of justified to myself that I could go a day or so without another one because there were some with a load of information.

Then add in when normal every-day life happens and again my blogging suffered. I really enjoy writing and find it helps me to think about how things are going, it also give me ideas for changes I can make to things, so it is not that I can’t do it, it is that I feel like I can’t make the time to do it. It is much like the precedent I set in my life prior to this challenge where I thought I couldn’t make time in my life to get to the gym or do a consistent exercise program for myself. Hmmm, what does that tell me?

The last 3 weeks have been literally packed to the brim with lots of activities. Activities above and beyond the normal levels we see and we are a busy family. First I turned 32 and then our oldest daughter turned 5. Both of these necessitated celebrations in our home. Not as much for me, as for our daughter. When she was born she spent 5 weeks in the NICU at Providence, and she has experienced a whole host a health concerns and developmental delays in her short 5 years. As brand-new parents to a child who experiences the medical and developmental special needs, when we finally got to leave the hospital with her in March of 2005 we weren’t completely sure how long we would be blessed with her in our lives — and neither were the doctors. We have always made a huge deal out of each milestone, we have celebrated her birthdays to the max and we have celebrated her being able to sit, being able to stand with support etc… Then of course we had the Super bowl to contend with. All of these are examples of “special occasions” of special activities in our lives that can include the eating of foods that may not be the best choices for us. For my husband and I this has been a slight struggle but one that we have been able to look in the eyes and actually not allow it to control us or overtake our endeavors to be healthier.

We have been able to have things we enjoy, such as steak, pasta salad, pizza, and pie just to name a few. We have actually been fortunate enough to find recipes that we can modify to allow us to enjoy a healthier version without giving up the tastes we love. So even though life throws curveballs such as birthdays and special events to celebrate we do not have to give up our “favorites” and can still stay on track no matter how time ticks by.

Until next time, I sincerely hope that you all are having the same sort of successes that we are. Just remember, “Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out”. — Robert Collier -
