The actions of the majorities of the Mat-Su Borough Assembly and the School Board last week make it imperative that we change the makeup of each of these boards.
The Borough Assembly said no to evaluating the health impact of the proposed coal mines in the Sutton area, though the program would be provided by the state at little or no cost. The health of business seems to be much more important to those who voted in opposition than the health of borough residents.
The School Board majority did not support the State Association of School Boards in its endeavor to assure families and the community that home-schooled students, as well as students in our schools, are making satisfactory progress in their educational programs.
The health of my neighbors and my own family; the quality of the education of their children and grandchildren, as well as my own, is important to me — as I know it is to you. Let’s make a positive change.
Please join me on Oct. 2 in voting for Mark Masteller as Borough Mayor, and Debby Retherford and Sarah Welton (who did vote in support of a quality education for all borough students) for School Board. I also encourage those of you who live in District 3 to support Michelle Church for assembly.
Our future depends on your action.
