Top players crowned at state amateur golf championships

PALMER — Adam Baxter used a late push to secure the men’s title at the Alaska State Amateur Golf Championships at Palmer Golf Course Sunday.

Baxter, a West Valley High School graduate from Fairbanks, shot a 69 during his final round to post a four-day total of 284. Baxter finished four strokes ahead of runner-up Greg Sanders to win his second state amateur in three years.

Baxter opened the tournament shooting a 69, three-under-par, on Thursday.

Sanders, the defending state champion, shot a 74 on the final day to finish just ahead of third-place Jordan Miller (289).

Audrey Russo used the best round of the women’s championship flight to win the women’s title. Russo shot a 77 in her final round, to notch a three-round total of 251.
