Top-seed CHS boys, girls win

PALMER — Sometimes it doesn’t matter what kind of defense an opponent throws at you. The top players have a tendency to know how to strike.

Despite seeing a defensive game plan that focused on her, Colony senior Jamie Krediet scored twice to lead the Knights to a 5-0 win over Skyview during the first day of the Northern Lights Conference Championships at Colony High School on Thursday.

“They wanted to mark Jamie and it worked to our advantage,” Colony head coach Lorie Miner said.

After seeing the Panthers blanket her senior captain, Miner said the Knights made adjustments and capitalized. Colony sent Krediet to the edge of the field, which opened up the middle. When given the opportunity, Krediet darted through the middle and scored.

The results were a pair of second-half goals for the senior.

Ali Baker scored during the first half to give the Knights the 1-0 lead. Junior Krystal Heimerl capped the scoring for the Knights late in the game. Skyview also knocked a ball into its own net during the second half.

Rebecca Steel-Mackey and Zoe Hixenbaugh recorded assists, and Jaden Chew earned the shutout in the Colony net.

The top-seeded Knights now move on to play Kenai today at 3 p.m. at CHS in the semifinals.

Colony boys 7, Kenai 1

PALMER — Junior John Meaney and senior Matt Kelly each scored twice to help Colony earn a 7-1 win over Kenai during the Northern Lights Conference quarterfinals at Colony High School on Thursday.

Meaney, Kelly and Avery Smith each scored during the first 40 minutes to help Colony take the 3-0 lead into halftime. Kenai scored within the first two minutes of the second half, but the Knights added four unanswered goals in the win.

Hunter Fisher and Jordan Healy also scored for CHS.

Colony will face Wasilla today at 5 p.m. in the semifinals.
