Track and Field results still pending

PALMER — Results from the Colony Invitational Track and Field meet last weekend are still being processed, but here are a few highlights:

In the boys’ 3,200-meter run, Jordan and Jonah Theisen of Kenai Central High School packed the one-two punch with 10:03 finishes. Next up was Wasilla’s Colton Pulver in 10:16. Other Valley finishers in the top 10 were Colony’s Tracen Knopp, Tyler Daniel and Dakota Peterson-Thompson in fifth, sixth and ninth, respectively.

On the girls’ side, Kenai’s famous Allie Ostrander won the 3,200 in 10:18, almost a minute and a half faster than second place. Colony’s Jill Bowker and Cathelyne Powers came in third and fourth, followed by Wasilla’s Riley Burroughs. The Knights put two more in the top 10: Alex Mathis took eighth and Jordyn Block came in 10th.

In the 4x200 or 800-meter relay, the Colony boys finished second to the Palmer Moose, though times are not yet official. The Wasilla Warriors came in third.

On the girls’ side, the first Valley team in was from Palmer. Soldotna, Kenai and Homer came in ahead.

In the girls’ 100-meter sprint, Peggy Mathis was first in from the Valley, finishing second in 13.25 seconds. Houston’s Chanel May-Thomas came in seventh at 13.98.

The boys’ 100-meter results are not yet available.

In the boys’ 200-meter sprint, Colony’s Hunter Harwood took first with a time of 23.16 seconds, followed by Anchorage Christian’s Michael Todd at 23.55. Palmer’s Jared Layton finished third at 23.61, followed by his teammate, Tyler Spatz, at 23.94. Colony’s Heita Kitagawa and Steven Bilafer took fifth and seventh in 24.15 and 24.79, respectively.

No female Valley athletes finished in the 200-meter finals.

Spatz finished first for the Valley in the boys’ 400-meter run, taking fourth with a time of 54.28 seconds. Colony’s Brandon Nicholson was the only other male Valley athlete in the finals, finishing seventh at 58.81.

Palmer also represented the Valley in the girls’ 400, placing sophomores Ruby Woodings and Rya Berrigan in fifth and sixth places with times of 1:04.13 and 1:04.25.

In the boys’ 800-meter run, Colony distance runners Daniel, Peterson-Thompson and Knopp represented the Valley, placing fourth, sixth and seventh.

On the girls’ side, it was Coleen Geraghty, Bowker and Powers who took fourth, sixth and seventh.

The 1,600-meter run saw Peterson-Thompson, Knopp and Daniel again in fourth, fifth and seventh, plus Wasilla’s Pulver and Karl Greathouse in sixth and 10th. Josiah Alverts was the lone Palmer finisher in the top 10 in eighth place. Less than 30 seconds separated first from 10th, with all times under 5 minutes through 16th place.

On the girls’ side it was Ostrander in the lead again — the only girl running faster than 5 minutes — plus Colony’s Powers, Bowker, Geraghty and Block in fourth, sixth, eighth and tenth. Wasilla’s Riley Burroughs squeezed in between, taking fifth.

Colony star Chase Stevens won the girls’ 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.88 seconds. Palmer’s Grace Miller was the only other Valley finalist, finishing seventh in 19.18.

In the boys’ 110-meter hurdles, Jake Palmberg of Wasilla Lake Christian secured a fourth-place finish with a time of 18.16 seconds. Colony’s Isaiah Tira was the only other Valley finalist, finishing sixth at 18.43.

Palmberg also took second in the 300 hurdles, joined by Colony’s Matthew Clyde and Wasilla’s Caleb Drumm in seventh and eighth place.

For the girls, Colony’s Annie Willardson finished fourth and Palmer’s Mariah McNamara finished sixth.

Three Valley athletes made the top 10 in the boys’ shot put. Palmer’s Ryker Carrington threw 41 feet, 10 inches, coming in fourth; Colony’s Alex Alvarado threw 41 even; and Wasilla’s Dahlton Wasankari threw 38-9 for eighth place.

Results for the girls’ shot put have not yet been posted.

In girls’ discus, Kristina Tennesen threw farthest for the Valley, landing the disc 105 feet, 5 inches down the field for a third-place finish. Wasilla’s Sylvia Tuisaula and Sara Schindler took fifth and seventh, respectively, followed by Colony’s Katelyn Foster in ninth and Houston’s Kimberly Quincy in 10th.

Results for the boys’ discus have not yet been posted.

In girls’ high jump, Stevens took first with a height of 5 feet, 2 inches. Wasilla’s Ceil Dunleavy jumped 5-0 for second place, and Colony athletes Peggy Mathis and Maria Cucullu tied for third place, jumping 4-8.

Stephens claimed another win in the girls’ triple jump with a length of 34 feet, 2.5 inches, and Dunleavy took third with a 30-10.25. Cucullu took fourth with a 30-8.5.

On the boys’ side, Nicholson also had a repeat win with a jump of 6 feet. Tira came in third with a jump of 5-4.

In the boys’ long jump, Palmberg finished highest of Valley jumpers, coming in third at 18 feet, 9 inches. Nicholson earned fourth place and Terrel Watson took ninth for the Knights, and Warrior Caleb Wolfe jumped 17-11 for sixth place.
