To the editor:
I am writing to thank and commend Mayor Rupright, M. Bixby, A. Giddings, M. Hughes and other city of Wasilla employees for their quick response to a traffic safety concern I had.
I am a resident who lives near Westpoint Drive and Westcove Drive in Wasilla, where it was a daily occurrence to see drivers speeding up the hill on Westcove Drive and around the blind curve onto Westpoint Drive. I walk my dog, my neighbors walk dogs, children play outside and workers from the nearby medical buildings take walks during breaks, and I was concerned someone was going to get hit.
I e-mailed the mayor, the director of public works and the director of planning for the city to let them know what I perceived as a traffic safety problem. Not only did I have a response the very same day, they also cut back the foliage on the right-of-way and a “Yield” sign was installed the very next day.
All in 24 hours. Wow!
It is apparent the mayor and his team care about and are committed to the safety of Wasilla residents. So thank you all for helping to reduce traffic crashes, injuries and fatalities on Wasilla roadways.
