WASILLA — High weekend tides washed out a section of trail around Reflections Lake in the Palmer Hay Flats State Game Refuge, according to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game.
The department issued a press release about the washout on Monday, saying the trail is impassable past the spot that’s been washed out.
State lands and refuges coordinator Joe Meehan said people can still use the recreational area.
“We’re still encouraging the public to use the site. The boardwalk and wildlife viewing tower are still accessible and open to public use,” he said in a statement.
The washout was caused when a high tide breached a berm supporting the trail on the lake’s west side. People can still walk about halfway around the lake, but getting past the missing section is now impossible.
Repairs are planned, but could take several weeks to complete.
