PALMER — Valley residents interested in learning more about putting their volunteer efforts toward taking care of the region’s trail system are being encouraged to attend a one-day assessment training set for Saturday.
Planned for from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Valley Center for Recycling Solutions building as well as the nearby Crevasse Moraine Trails, the seminar is designed to teach volunteers the basics of sustainable trails, common problems encountered and a process for identifying and cataloging problems, according to Steve Cleary, the Executive Director of Alaska Trails, the nonprofit group sponsoring the workshop.
“We have had a few of these workshops and hope to have many more to give volunteers a better idea of assessing trail needs along with getting that information to the proper agencies,” Cleary said. “Saturday’s training will start at the recycling center, then move to the Crevasse Moraine Trails in the afternoon.”
Lunch will be provided.
The instructor will be Valley trailbuilder Mark Gronewald, owner of Trailwerx.
Those planning to attend should RSVP Cleary at steve.cleary@alaska-trails.org.
