‘Trails for Gayle’ event planned for May 4

PALMER — A fundraising event for Gayle Janecek is scheduled for May 4 at Palmer High School.

The event will feature a race on the Michael Janecek Trail, a system of cross country running trails named for her husband Michael.

Gayle Janecek, an avid supporter of local athletics, was recently diagnosed with cancer.

The race — in which participants can run, walk or bike — is from 3-4 p.m. on May 4. Registration starts at 2:30 p.m.

Silent and out-cry auctions are also planned. Among the items to be auctioned are the 2008 Iditarod bib worn by mushing legend DeeDee Jonrowe, a Shane Lamb print and a seven-night vacation for two to Mexico.

A potluck is also planned for 4 p.m. that day.

To donate items or for more information, see www.trailsforgayle.org or contact Palmer High School at 746-8400.
