Employees of Northern Powerline Constructors Inc. — journeyman Bobby McCarthy and apprentice Wayne Kinnebrew — put the finishing touches on the new transmission line the company built from Matanuska Electric Association’s Eklutna Generation Station to the Hospital Substation. General foreman Marcus Moore said the company started the $8 million project in February and testing will begin on the lines next week.

The new generation station will begin providing electricity to MEA customers Dec. 31, 2014. Construction of the power plant marks a major shift for MEA, which currently purchases its electricity from Chugach Electric.
