Antique power equipment is roaring to life this weekend at the Museum of Alaska Transportation and Industry, as the Transportation Expo kicks off Saturday.
The Transportation Expo is a showcase of antique transportation displays, and a showcase for the museum as well.
"The Transportation Expo kind of shows off Alaska's history and the old-time family history of this area," said Colleen Sykora of the Museum of Alaska Transportation and Industry.
The event is geared toward a family friendly atmosphere, Sykora said.
There will be hay bale rides and many interactive displays, which should appeal to kids and adults alike.
"We've invited the Antique Motor Mushers of Alaska and the Antique Power Club, and they bring their displays with them," Sykora said.
There will be demonstrations around the museum's grounds, as well as a number of activities, Sykora said.
The event runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with admission being $8 for adults, $5 for children and seniors, or $18 for a family. The museum is located off Mile 47 Parks Hwy., at 3800 Neuser Drive.
The museum was previously housed on the Alaska State Fairgrounds. The museum began in 1973, as a collection of equipment and stories.
Mining and railroad pieces dominated the collection in the early years. Now, it represents all forms of transportation, as well as the history of Alaska's economic growth.
