Trapper Creek residents will celebrate the first day of spring during their 17th Annual Cabin Fever Reliever festival on Saturday. Opening ceremonies will begin at 11 a.m. at the Trapper Creek Community Center, located at Mile 115.5 Parks Highway.
Outdoor events scheduled during the festival include a snowmachine obstacle course and freestyle ski races -- 2.5K, 5K and 10K -- beginning at 11:30 a.m. There will be dog sled rides and a donut-eating contest for the kids, along with other activities.
Inside the community center, the baked goods and chili cook-off contests will be judged, winners will be awarded ribbons, and their freshly made, delicious entries will be up for sale.
The festival will wind down around a bonfire in the late afternoon, followed by a spaghetti dinner at the Trapper Creek Trading Post at 5 p.m.
There is a raffle in conjunction with the festival, with proceeds going toward improvements and upkeep of the Trapper Creek Community Center and park. Tickets are $1 each, and more than 65 prizes will be given away -- including an Era Helicopter Mount McKinley flight-seeing trip for two. Tickets are available at Trapper Creek businesses, Moore's Hardware in Sunshine and Newman's Hilltop Tesoro in Willow. Tickets will also be on sale at the event, with winners drawn at 3 p.m.
