To the editor:
After watching and hearing ads from outside organizations (like Karl Rove’s American Crossroads, which has already picked Dan Sullivan as Alaska’s nominee), I am endorsing Mead Treadwell for U.S. Senate representing Alaska.
Our lieutenant governor knows Alaska; fights for more liberty; fiscal sanity; bringing decision-making home (Alaska); and, is determined to keep Congress and President Obama from spending American into oblivion.
Mead is a proven leader and the only Republican candidate who has been successfully elected to office by impressive margins. A recent Dittman poll indicates Mead is well-known and well-liked by grassroots Alaskans.
In 2001, Mead was appointed by President Bush to join the U.S. Arctic Research Commission. In 2006 he became chairman. Mead is strong on national defense.
Mead Treadwell can and should win this campaign for three primary reasons:
First, Mead is a full-spectrum conservative with the record to match. He is pro-life and a fierce defender of gun, speech, religious and private rights. He is a fiscal hawk and a defense expert who helped make Reagan’s missile defense happen. As a private-sector entrepreneur, he understands both the free market and how government regulations get in the way.
Second, Mead knows and fights for Alaska. As a 40-year resident of Alaska, he has been in the thick of many issues with Washington – energy, hunting and fishing rights on public lands, and governing ourselves as free people. He has promoted clean air, water and energy across Alaska. He also helped address the issues with the Exxon Valdez oil spill.
Third, Mead has helped make Alaska a better place for families. While we worked together to build Alaska’s science and technology capacity, I learned he is great at mentoring others starting new businesses. He also helped to establish the Prince William Sound Science Center, the Alaska Sealife Center in Seward, and the Challenger Learning Center in Kenai.
To unseat Mark Begich, Republicans need an Alaskan candidate who is ready; a tired and true conservative; a fighter who can work with people; and, someone with both ideals and real-world experience.
Alaska needs Mead Treadwell.
