Tree on transmission line knocks out power Wednesday

MAT-SU VALLEY — A tree that fell onto a transmission line is responsible for a power outage that left hundreds of Matanuska Electric Association customers without electricity for more than an hour Wednesday afternoon.

"Crews have cleared the tree from the line and service has been restored," MEA spokesperson Kevin Brown said in an email.

The tree caused Breaker 362 at Eklutna and MS101 at Shaw to open, which took Dow, Palmer, Lucas, Hospital, Lazelle and O,Neil Substations offline, Brown said.
