WASILLA -- How long could Palmer hold Chandice Cronk down? -- 7 minutes and 59 seconds.
Cronk hit a three-pointer from about four feet past the arc as time expired in the first quarter to spark Wasilla and lead the Warriors to a 52-43 Region III win over Palmer at Wasilla High School on Tuesday.
Palmer held the high-scoring Cronk scoreless and the potent Warrior offense to just six points in the first quarter until the Wasilla sharpshooter was able to nail the shot from downtown Wasilla.
Cronk's spark lit the fuse for an "en fuego" Wasilla offense, as they outscored Palmer 30-15 in the following two quarters. Cronk hit two of her five treys and Abby Bulawa poured all of her 13 points during the stretch.
Emily Bolling and Keisha Hooker scored 18 of Palmer's 20 points in the fourth quarter to bring the Moose back in the game. Palmer went on a 10-2 run during the last period to leap back into the game.
Wasilla improved to 11-2 overall and 4-0 in Region III play. The Warriors, currently ranked second in the state, are preparing for a showdown with top-ranked Lathrop. The 13-1 Malemutes will visit Wasilla High School tonight at 6:15 p.m.
The Moose will host Juneau-Douglas in a two-game non-conference series at Palmer High School this weekend.
