PALMER — Trial for a Wasilla-area man accused of murdering his 6-month-old daughter when he allegedly shook her and threw her on a couch has been scheduled for Feb. 11.
Lawyers in the case against Burton G. Naczi, 22, met before Superior Court Judge Vanessa White in Palmer Wednesday for a conference in which the only decision made was that they would meet again Jan. 24.
Naczi was arrested Nov. 19. The baby had died the day before, according to Alaska State Trooper reports.
According to a trooper investigator’s affidavit, Naczi initially claimed he fell down some stairs with baby Kaydence and that’s how she was injured. Later, he said he shook the girl then threw her on a couch.
The baby was not taken to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center until she was returned to her mother, Stephanie Lewinski, 19, who noticed her injuries. Kaydence was later air-lifted to Providence Alaska Medical Center where she died.
Naczi faces first-degree murder and manslaughter charges. If convicted, he faces between seven and 99 years in prison.
White kept Naczi’s bail set at $200,000 with a court-approved third-party custodian. Records show he remains jailed at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility.
