Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

I’ve read some comments coming from fellow Trim to Winners wondering about the other participants, so I thought I’d write this blog about the participants and a few of our statistics.
We have 740 people who registered and weighed in for the program. 741! That is outstanding! We had more than 800 people register, but 66 people failed to weigh in by the January 13th deadline.
The total combined weight of all participants is 164,176.9 pounds; more than 82 tons. That’s the equivalent of more than eight 18-wheeler semis, about 82 Volkswagen Beetles,
Our average weight is 221.9 pounds.
The oldest participant is 86 years old and our youngest is 18 years old. Every time I start to think this is too hard, I will think of that 86 year old participant and tell myself that if he can do this, so can I! The average age of all participants is 43 years old.
So, it’s easy to see by the numbers that there are a lot of us on this quest to better health, and I’m sure there are as many reasons to lose the weight as there are participants. Although we are great in number, we all have the same goal and many of us have probably shared the same struggle to lose weight and keep it off for many years.
No matter how old or young we are or whether we have 20 pounds or 100 pounds or more to lose, we are in this together. Our recipe section is filling up nicely and there are several I’m anxious to get back home and try out myself.
I’m still in Arizona and found it hasn’t been as easy to keep up with the blogs as I thought it would be. I’ve also had intermittent problems with my email. A few of you have emailed me with questions, comments and pictures and I promise I’ll respond when I get back to Alaska. I will likely not be able to post tomorrow, as my flight arrives into Anchorage fairly late.
I hope you all have a good weekend and are able to stay on track. Oh yeah, almost forgot, I’ve hit the hotel fitness facility every day except for today. I hope to be able to sneak in a workout tomorrow after the meetings adjourn and before we fly out. I’ve not strayed too far from the diet. The hardest part has been the banquet meals when you can’t order from the menu, so I’ve chosen the items that would do the least damage. I’m really looking forward to getting home and getting back on track, including the workouts at the AT&T Sports Center with Brutal Bill.
