Trinity celebrating 15 years of helping the community

For more than a decade, Trinity Lutheran Church has been a home away from home for many community organizations that use the building.

Sunday, Trinity is celebrating that longevity.

The church is hosting a special day of worship Sunday to mark 15 years in the Valley.

Worship begins at 10 a.m., with a special catered lunch at noon.

For years, the Trinity Barn Plaza has been a place community organizations have met and operated, and Pastor Kathy Franzenburg said that has been the most important role her church has played in the Valley.

"It's kind of like the church going to the people, rather than the people coming to the church," Franzenburg said. "The gift of Trinity is that we can offer our building to so many diverse groups."

In one week, the church's building may be filled with youth football parents, used as a meeting place for several different churches, a couple of support groups and even community school programs.

In the past, the church has served as the clubhouse of the Boys and Girls Club, as well as the meeting place for numerous organizations.

Providing a place for organizations that otherwise wouldn't have a place to meet is something Franzenburg said makes the church a vital part of the community.

"We are trying to make it a place of welcome for everyone," said Franzenburg, who has been at the church for nine years in January. "If we can be the church for all the people who use the building, that's good."

During the special day of worship, the musical "To The Castle" will be presented, Franzenburg said.
