ANCHORAGE — Baseball made the triple play famous. But soccer has a triple play of its own — a triple-header.
Chris Olsen capped a series of three consecutive headers to score and help lead the Colony Knights to a 2-1 boys’ soccer win over West Valley Friday at The Dome in Anchorage.
Jake Spannagel’s corner kick to the near post led to the three straight headers. Chas Stevens flicked the ball with his head to the far post of the Wolfpack net, Andrew Knowles followed with his header, an official shot on goal, and Olsen capitalized on his touch, heading the ball into the net.
Olsen started and finished a series of action for the Knights that ultimately led to a Colony goal. The Knights sent a through-ball toward the West Valley net, and the Wolfpack goalie made a diving save. Olsen used a shoulder tackle to break the ball away from the West Valley keeper. The ball went out of play, resulting in a corner kick.
Olsen’s goal gave the Knights the 2-0 advantage during the 55th minute. Harrison Menard gave Colony its first lead, scoring during the 46th minute. Austin Richardson settled a pass from Ben Atkinson and rolled the ball to Menard, who slammed it in the back of the WVHS net.
West Valley scored its goal during the 77th minute. Greyson Grediagin earned the win in the CHS net.
ANCHORAGE — The Wasilla Warriors scored a pair of unanswered goals and rallied to a 2-1 win over the West Valley Wolfpack Thursday at The Dome in Anchorage.
West Valley led 1-0 at halftime, but Elijah Crawford tied the score in the second half. Ethan Keenan had an assist on the play. Crawford also set up the game-winner, an Oleg Lozko goal.
