Troopers bust 2 drug dealers in weekend arrests

WASILLA — A pair of press releases seem to indicate that out-of-towners allegedly dealing drugs in the Valley should work on being less conspicuous.

Two men called in as suspicious were arrested for possession of a dealer’s amount of drugs in Wasilla Saturday. The first came in the wee hours of the morning, 1:18 a.m., on Copper Creek Road.

Alaska State Troopers say that members of the department’s Bureau of Highway Patrol stopped a suspicious vehicle and talked to Taylor Wheatley, 20, of Fairbanks.

Wheatley “was in possession of multiple controlled substances and multiple weapons. Wheatley was arrested for possession and distribution of controlled substances and misconduct involving weapons,” troopers report.

In Alaska, it’s illegal to possess guns while engaged in selling drugs. One of the weapons misconduct charges was for that act, but another was for possessing a banned weapon.

Wheatley was jailed at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility without bail. As of Monday afternoon he was still there.

His criminal record is short, just a no seat belt ticket last year and a pending vehicle theft case in Fairbanks.

The second suspicious vehicle to land its driver in jail on drug dealing charges was parked on Peninsula Drive at 8:07 p.m., Saturday, when troopers rolled up on it.

“With the assistance of AST K-9 Chevron, investigation revealed the driver, Charles J. Mosley, age 33, of Anchorage, was on federal probation and illegally possessed quantities of heroin an crystal methamphetamine with intent to distribute,” according to the press release.

Mosley was jailed on drug misconduct charges at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial facility without bail. As of Monday afternoon he was still there.

His federal conviction was in 2005 on charges of possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of a gun while trafficking drugs and being a felony in possession of a weapon, according to federal court databases.

He was sentenced to nearly 11 years in prison, but was out on probation at least as early as February when a warrant was issued for his arrest.
