PALMER — Alaska State Troopers announced Thursday that the two officers who shot a woman outside a Wasilla clinic acted within the law.
According to a press statement, the troopers’ Alaska Bureau of Investigation as well as the state’s Office of Special Prosecutions and Appeals both looked over the shooting and found the officers involved acted appropriately.
The shooting occurred Feb. 3 outside the Garrett Building where Debra Torrey had been seeking counseling. Her psychiatrist called troopers after Torrey became upset, brandished a pistol, and fired a round into the floor of the office.
Troopers arrived on scene shortly thereafter. They said at the time that Torrey refused to comply with their commands and wouldn’t put down the gun.
Alfred “Skip” Chadwell and Kevin S. Blanchette, both assigned to the troopers’ Palmer Post, fired on Torrey, who died at the scene.
