WASILLA — A snowmachiner who died after getting buried in an avalanche Saturday near Hatcher Pass has been identified as 35-year-old Dashiell Erickson of Anchorage.
Alaska State Troopers said Erickson’s body was recovered Sunday by Alaska State Park rangers and members of the Alaska Mountain Rescue Group.
According to accounts posted by troopers and the Hatcher Pass Avalanche Center, Erickson was riding with two other snowmachiners when he was buried by a sudden snow slide. He was wearing a safety beacon and quickly dug out by his companions, but did not survive.
Harsh weather Saturday night kept Erickson’s friends from immediately recovering his body.
