WILLOW -- Alaska State troopers surrounded a house near the intersection of Speedway Drive and the Parks Highway on Wednesday and captured a Willow man they said shot another Willow man earlier that morning.
According to an Alaska State Trooper dispatch, Lincoln Mark, 69, allegedly fired one shot into the resident of Marvin Mandros, 55. The bullet hit Mandros and caused what troopers said were non life-threatening injuries. Mark then drove from the scene, troopers said.
About three hours later, troopers surrounded another Willow-area home roughly seven miles away. Trooper Zachary Huckstep was one of the troopers who approached a residence with weapons drawn and helped arrest Mark without incident. Mark was searched before being taken into custody and driven from the scene in an SUV.
Huckstep said he was glad no one was injured at the scene of the arrest. To the best of his knowledge, no one other than the shooter and the victim were involved, Huckstep said. Mark was taken into custody at his residence, Huckstep said.
"I like to write my reports short and sweet," he said. "'Suspect was taken into custody without major incidents.'"
Word of the shooting spread after radio traffic asked emergency responders to stage near an Oshetna Road address to treat a man who had been shot.
Troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters said troopers got a initial report at around 8:38 a.m. that someone had been shot near mile 83 of the Parks Highway, which is near the point where the highway crosses the Kashwitna River.
Mark was charged with two counts of second-degree misconduct involving weapons, second-degree assault and third-degree assault.
