BUTTE — Alaska State Troopers say a man whose body was found next to a marijuana grow Dec. 9 died as a result of a homicide.
Theodore Konyot, 60, was found dead at his home near Mile 1.1, Knik River Road in Butte at 8 p.m., Monday.
Tuesday troopers said they were investigating the death. By Wednesday they released an update.
“Investigation is ongoing by (the Alaska Bureau of Investigation), but Konyot's death was been determined to be a homicide,” according to a trooper press statement.
“Homicide” is a term troopers generally use to distinguish between deaths from natural causes, suicides and other types of deaths caused by the hands of another person.
Calling a death a homicide does not rule out self-defense killings or things like accidental shootings.
On Tuesday, troopers said that a family member had found Konyot’s body and reported the death to them.
They also said that after they arrived to investigate they located a marijuana grow on Konyot’s property.
Troopers are seeking the public’s help in the case.
“Anyone with information relating to Konyot's death, or who had any contact with Konyot, or saw suspicious activity in that area from 12/7/13 through 12/9/13 is asked to call the Alaska State Troopers, Inv. Adams at 746-9106,” troopers say in their press release.
Tipsters that wish to remain anonymous can use Mat-Su Crime Stoppers at 745-3333.
