ANCHORAGE — Alaskans have a range of plans for the Fourth of July, and so do Alaska State Troopers.
Troopers will be mostly out on the roads enforcing traffic laws and responding to calls for service while Alaska Wildlife Troopers will focus on contacting people out hunting or fishing.
Alaska Bureau of Highway Patrol also will have overtime patrols to keep traffic moving safely up and down the highways through July 8. Troopers will watch for aggressive, distracted and impaired driving.
Motorists should expect heavy traffic on the Seward and Sterling highways “due to numerous events on the Kenai Peninsula, such as the Girdwood Forest Fair and Mount Marathon in Seward, and people heading to popular fishing spots,” troopers said in a press statement.
Other safety tips:
• Drive with head lights on at all times.
• Pull over for emergency vehicles during traffic stops.
• Pull over when five or more vehicles are behind you if you are driving slower than the speed limit.
• Report Every Dangerous Driver Immediately by calling 911.
