Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Former longtime Palmer resident Truman H. Goodwin, 77, died Aug. 13, 2004, in Merced, Calif. Mr. Goodwin was born April 5, 1927, in Fox, Ark. As a young man he served honorably in the Navy in San Diego.
Mr. Goodwin moved his family to Anchorage in September 1959 and to the Matanuska Valley shortly thereafter. He was self-employed throughout his lifetime. As a younger man he enjoyed the Alaskan outdoors and hunting and fishing with his family and friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Goodwin left Alaska in 1993 and relocated in Arkansas. They moved to California just over one year ago to be near family.
Mr. Goodwin is survived by his wife of 57 years, Hazel Goodwin of Merced, Calif.; son, David Goodwin of Palmer; daughter, Linda Goodwin Robertson of Merced, Calif.; grandchildren, Culley Maxwell and Brandon Goodwin of California and Melanie Deland of Arizona; sister, Faye Cuthberson of San Bruno, Calif. and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Bob Goodwin, Hollis Goodwin and Roy Goodwin.
His family said, "My Dad was a loving husband and father who never met a stranger. He enjoyed music, dancing (in his younger days) and spending time with his family."
Visitation was held at Ivers & Alcorn Funeral Home in Merced, Calif., and interment at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella.
