With only two days to go, Robert Robinson is looking like the wire-to-wire victor in the Mat-Su King Salmon Derby.
Robinson caught his 66.8-pound king salmon in the opening weeks of the derby. Since then, the second-largest fish is 10 pounds lighter, and Robinson only has two more days to wait.
In the sixth week's competition, Brett Craker's 47.6-pound king salmon took top honors, followed by Steven Neckert's 46-pounder, A.J. Starks' 45.9-pound king, Sparky Benson's 44.6-pound fish and Patt Hubbs' 41.9-pounder. Todd Downs was the weekly weight match winner at 17.6 pounds.
In the youth division, Aaron Thomas took the top spot with a 45.4-pound king he caught in the Little Su. Jeremy Meier was second with a 43.1-pounder, followed by Jennifer Meier at 34 pounds, Colin Marquiss at 32.7 pounds and Fisher Summers at 30.1 pounds. Logan Snyder was the weekly weight match winner at 19.2 pounds. In the overall derby, Robinson leads the way, followed by Robert Sampson's 56.4-pound king salmon. Amber Haralson is in third with a 55.6-pound fish. In the pro class, Robinson leads Haralson and third-place Roy Munholland. In the overall youth derby, John Flanagan is in first (48.6), followed by Paul McKeown (48.1) and Thomas (45.4).
