EAGLE RIVER -- A Palmer man and a woman from Anchorage died after a single-car rollover crash on the Glenn Highway in the morning hours of Easter Sunday.
John Hopkin, 20, of Palmer, and Kristine O. Malotte, 22, of Anchorage, both died as a result of a crash that happened at about 3:40 a.m. Sunday, near the North Eagle River Exit, according to a press release from the Anchorage Police Department.
Hopkin was driving a white 1993 Oldsmobile Cutlass Sierra outbound on the Glenn Highway when he lost control of the car, according to APD. The press release said the car drifted off the road toward the shoulder, the driver over-corrected, and the car flipped numerous times in the accident. Malotte was ejected from the car and was found down an embankment about 90 feet from the vehicle, according to APD. Hopkin was found inside the car and wearing his seat belt.
Hopkin was pronounced dead at Providence Alaska Medical Center. Malotte was pronounced dead at Alaska Regional Hospital. The APD release said it does not appear as if alcohol played a role in the accident. Police are continuing an investigation.
