The Alaska Railroad Corp. reported that a work train on the Curry siding 22 miles north of Talkeetna, at Milepost 248 on the railroad, derailed at approximately 3:15 a.m. on Friday, June 6. There were no injuries among three members of the train crew and damage was limited to a punctured fuel tank on one of two locomotives derailed.

The fuel tank has been secured and containment measures were taken to handle spilled oil. The cause of the derailment is being investigated. The Curry Loop track, where the derailment occurred, provided access to a quarry where heavy rock is mined for railroad maintenance.
