WASILLA -- Troopers responded to an emergency call at roughly 7:30 Sunday night from Lace Hall of Wasilla, who reported that her father and a friend had become stranded atop nearby Bald Mountain. A rescue crew was dispatched to bring the lost snowmachiners, who had suffered no serious injuries, home again.
In the call received by troopers, Hall stated that her father, William Hall, and Wade Howatt, both of Palmer, had embarked on a snowmachine trip on Bald Mountain, but had become stuck in the area at around 2 p.m. Sunday and attempted to walk out. However, the pair only made it to treeline before becoming exhausted and calling for help.
Troopers responded with Helo 1, their rescue helicopter, and also dispatched volunteers from the Meadow Lakes and Big Lake Volunteer Fire Departments. Helo 1 located the two men and transported them off the mountain, whereupon they were checked by medics and returned to their families.
