WASILLA — Two people were seriously injured and several others sustained minor injuries after a four-vehicle collision Friday afternoon in Wasilla.

The crash happened around midday on the Palmer-Wasilla Highway just east of Hurley Circle, a busy intersection which feeds the parking lots of both the Fred Meyer and Target stores. The Wasilla Police Department investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing. Traffic was diverted from the scene for more than an hour.

Mat-Su Borough Director of Emergency Services Otto Feather said two people were rushed to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center with significant back and neck injuries, while two others were later taken to the hospital.

Feather added that others were also treated at the scene.

“We had a pretty complicated extraction on one of the vehicles and used the Jaws of Life,” Feather said. “The Central (Fire Department) crews on the scene initially did a good job of getting the proper resources in place.”

Friday morning was a particularly busy one for EMS crews, Feather said, with multiple calls keeping responders busy.
