To the editor:
Today, being Sunday, my husband picked up two newspapers and we read the headlines from the Anchorage Daily News which read, “Murder for $7 and beer,” and in reading the story it was about two 18-year-olds killing a homeless man. Now they can look forward to 99 years in a cell. What a waster of their lives and I would bet their parents are devastated.
Then The Frontiersman has a headline that reads “Shining Star” and it’s a story about a young man from Palmer who has earned a Bronze Star for the work he has done to protect his buddies in battle in Iraq and in protecting his homeland and all of us. So to Phil and Ann Granath, how proud you must be, and now I speak for all of us that we are proud of your son too. Thanks Phillip Granath.
Just thought it was ironic that in two newspapers 40 miles apart that the headlines could be so different and the outcomes would be so different and how proud we are of one young man and how heartbroken we are for the other two men.
Hey young people out there, please think about your actions before it’s too late.
It cannot be a life at all in a 6-foot cell the rest of your life.
