The death of a moose calf at Colony Middle School on Monday has resulted in the suspension of two students who were involved, Superintendent George Troxel told the Frontiersman on Thursday afternoon. Citing policy, the school district would not say how long the students are suspended.
Security at the school as been increased due to the personal attacks made by the public, many coming from the postings on the Frontiersman’s website.
“Because of the nature of the blogs, we have brought additional safety personnel to the school,” said spokeswoman Catherine Esary.
As is standard procedure, the principal and assistant principle conducted post-incident conferences with the involved students and their parents, Esary said.
The principal used the automatic calling system to phone every parent of Colony Middle School students “to remind them the climate at Colony is positive,” Esary said.
“Incidents like this are not indicative of the students at Colony, she said. “The students are honorable, make wise decisions, and do the right thing.”
The state troopers do not have an ongoing investigation, said spokeswoman Megan Peters earlier in the week.
“The moose killed itself,” she said.
