UA shouldn’t get another dime

To the editor:

In reading the election pamphlet mailed out by the state of Alaska, I note that the Judicial Council recommends that Patrick McKay be retained as a “judge.”

McKay recently got his second conviction for drunk driving, but the council doesn’t mention this, and they want to keep him on the bench? No wonder we have so many drunks on the road.

On another matter:

The Frontiersman recently published an editorial supporting Bond Proposition B. If the proposition had been separated, as in K-12 on Bond B and the University of Alaska projects on a separate bond proposition, I would support Proposition B. However, since they are lumped together, I will vote against Proposition B.

Why? University of Alaska wants $23,000,000 for an arts building, and some $174,000,000 for other projects. The problem is they don’t take care of the assets they have now (the Goose Bay Nike Site is one example) and until they start doing so, they should not get another dime, not another acre of land.

Also you need to read the fine print in the University of Alaska request, “subject to reallocation.” Translation: once they get their hands on the money, it can be used for other projects not listed.

Voter beware.
