The University of Alaska Anchorage hockey team has announced its schedule for the 2020-21 season, which will feature four non-conference games, 20 WCHA games and six games against in-state rival Alaska Fairbanks.
UAA features former Wasilla High School standout Tanner Schachle, who is entering his junior season with the Division I program. Schachle scored 20 career points during his first two seasons with the program. He was tied for fifth on the team with 14 points last season, seven goals and seven assists, in 32 games. Schachle tallied two goals and four assists in 28 games as a freshman. Schachle enjoyed a career-high four-game point streak as a sophomore.
Following his prep career with the Wasilla Warriors, skated for three different junior hockey programs in two different leagues. He played two seasons for the Fairbanks Ice Dogs of the North American Hockey League and a season with the Kenai River Brown Bears of the NAHL. Schachle also played a season with the Okotoks Oilers in the Alberta Junior Hockey League. In total, Schachle bagged 45 goals and 47 assists in 219 career junior hockey games.
Schachle and the Seawolves open the season with a four-game non-conference series with Alaska Fairbanks. The Nanooks will host the first series Dec. 4-5, with the Seawolves hosting the second series Dec. 11-12.
Alaska Anchorage will open WCHA play when it hosts Minnesota State on Dec. 18-19. Lake Superior State will come to the Last Frontier on Jan. 8-9, and Bowling Green will come to town on Jan. 22-23.
Alaska Anchorage will host Michigan Tech Feb. 12-13 and will host rival Alaska Fairbanks in the Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup in the final series of the regular season Feb. 26-27.
The Green and Gold will play road series at Bemidji State (Jan. 1-2), Northern Michigan (Jan. 15-16), Alabama Huntsville (Feb. 5-6) and Ferris State (Feb. 19-20).
The weekend of March 5-6 will be used to make-up any games cancelled due to COVID. The WCHA playoffs, will be played over two weekends (March 12-13 and March 19-20).
