WASILLA — Alysha Devine, a senior on the UAA women’s basketball squad, has been named to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Preseason All-Conference Team.
Devine, a 2013 graduate of Wasilla High School, helped UAA earn a trip to the Division II National Championship game last season. The 6-foot forward was named honorable mention All-GNAC last season after averaging nearly nine points per game. Devine also pulled down five rebounds per contest, and shot 48 percent from the field and 45 percent from behind the arc. Devine was also named the Division II West Regional Championship MVP last year as a junior.
Devine is a team captain for a third straight year.
Devine and the Seawolves open the 2016-17 season with an exhibition game at Division I Washington State Nov. 6. The home opener is Nov. 11 against Cal State Los Angeles at the Alaska Airlines Center in Anchorage.
Devine’s older brother, Connor, made his UAA debut Oct. 21. Connor Devine, a 6-foot-10 transfer from Division I South Dakota State, finished with nine points and two rebounds in UAA’s annual men’s basketball Green-Gold game.
Connor Devine returned to the floor Friday as UAA faced a Seawolves alumni squad. Devine had four points and two rebounds.
Former Colony standout Damien Fulp finished with five points, five assists and three rebounds during UAA’s 83-50 win over the alumni. Buddy Bailey, a 2003 graduate of Wasilla High, furnished eight points for the alumni.
