WASILLA — The Susitna Rams battled with volleyball rival Unalaska throughout the 2017. Unalaska won the regular season. The Rams came out on top in the Borealis Conference Championships.
But, ultimately, Unalaska was the last standing. The Raiders won the rubber match, beating Su Valley 3-1 (8-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-18) during an elimination match on the second day of the ASAA/First National Bank 2A State Volleyball Championships Friday at Dimond High School in Anchorage.
Su Valley was 2-2 against Unalaska this season prior to the state tournament. Unalaska swept a pair of home matches against the Rams in the regular season. The host Rams beat Unalaska twice during the Borealis tourney at Su Valley, and earned the region title.
Su Valley entered state as the top seed from its conference, and swept Chevak 3-0 in the first round Thursday. Later in the day, Wrangell edged Su Valley 3-2 (21-25, 27-25, 15-25, 25-22, 15-8) and forced the Rams into an elimination match.
