Recently I had the pleasure of spending two weeks in Palmer. It was way colder than what I am used to in Philadelphia, Penn., but the people are warm and friendly so I didn’t mind the below-zero temps.
I’ve visited Palmer half a dozen times and a stop at Vagabond Blues at least twice a week is a must. They have the best soup, bread, quiche, lattes. I could go on and on praising their menu but this isn’t about food. Not this time.
On Feb. 8, the watercolors of a local artist by the name of Penelope were hung at this popular eating establishment. I had the privilege of being there.
Palmer, you have a lot of talent sitting on your back stoop. Penelope’s work is fresh, eclectic and soulful — a celebration of life in Alaska.
I know Alaska has fine artists. I’ve purchased over a dozen prints and paintings on my visits. I am just surprised that an artist of Penelope’s caliber has remained undiscovered. She is an original. Her composition, subject matter and technique are first rate. Palmer, you are blessed.
