The start of school year is just around the corner, and two United Way Mat-Su events that aim to support Valley children are planned this week. On Tuesday, Aug. 8, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. is the Stuff the Bus event, a supply drive that will use an actual school bus to collect backpacks filled with school supplies. The goal is to gather 2,000 backpacks.

On Wednesday, Aug. 9, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. is the Back to School Fair and Backpack Giveaway, where students can pick up a “Stuff the Bus” backpack, get a school physical or immunizations, a free haircut and gently-used clothing and shoes.

Both events will be at the historic school house near the Dorothy Page Museum in Wasilla.
