HOUSTON — Election results in the city of Houston were announced on Tuesday night and expect no changes between election night and when the ballots are counted that were not cast on Election Day.
Mayor Virgie Thompson won her bid for another three-year term on the Houston City Council with 41 votes. Sandra Porter received 47 votes in her race for Council Seat B. Both candidates for Houston City Council ran unopposed.
“My Canvass Board meets Friday at about 3,” said Houston City Clerk Sonya Pevan. “We only sent out two by mail and we haven’t got either one of those back.”
There are 1,639 registered voters in Houston. A total of 52 voters cast their ballots at the poll. There were 35 early votes and two questioned ballots cast, bringing the total number of votes that could be counted to 89 if each one of the early and questioned ballots are accepted. If each of the 37 early and questioned ballots is accepted, 5.4 percent of Houston voters turned out for this year’s election.
Thompson’s 41 votes accounted for 85.4 percent of the ballots cast in the race for Council seat A with seven write-in votes. Porter’s 47 votes accounted for 94 percent of the ballots cast in the race for Council seat B with 3 write-in votes.
