UPDATE: Earthquake shakes Valley

MAT-SU — A 4.41-magnitude earthquake rumbled the Mat-Su Valley at 1:12 p.m. today. The Alaska Earthquake Information Center reports the quake was centered 21 miles north northeast of Wasilla and about seven miles north northeast of Hatcher Pass.

The quake was originally reported as a 4.19 magnitue, but that information has been updated. It was the largest of several reported Sunday in what the AEIC calls the Cook Inlet Area. At 11:31 a.m. an earthquake with a magnitude of 1.54 was recorded 19 miles west northwest of Willow. At 12:20 p.m., a 1.76-magnitude quake was recorded nine miles west northwest of Wasilla.

Another shake measuring 2.48 was recorded six minutes following the largest quake in about the same area, 23 miles north northeast of Wasilla.
