Strong winds continued throughout the night in the Mat-Su as line crews continued to work on restoring power for members. As of 8:00 a.m. there are roughly 18,500 members still without power. To ensure employee safety and focus our efforts on outage response, MEA has closed its office locations in Palmer and Wasilla for Monday, January 3, 2022. Our Eagle River office location is open for members. Our priorities will be focused on responding to outage related calls, so please know there may be a delay in our phone response for other non-essential business. Member can also access their account information online using SmartHub (https://mea.smarthub.coop/Login.html).If you are affected by the power outages and you need a warm and safe place, the Red Cross of Alaska has opened the following warming shelter locations in the Mat-Su:Wasilla: Menard Sports Center 1001 S Clapp St Wasilla, AK 99654 Status: OPENPalmer: Mat-Su Senior Services Center 1132 S Chugach St (Use the back door entrance due to high winds) Palmer, AK 99645 Status: OPENFor safety concerns, please be careful and alert to icy conditions while walking in the parking lots and flying debris due to high winds.

Conditions continue to deteriorate and the winds are causing issues throughout the Borough. Reports of impassable roads blocked by trees, downed power lines, shattered windows in homes and vehicles have been received.
