Wasilla Police responded to three motor vehicle accidents on Wednesday night just before 5 p.m.
One hit and run accident on Nicola Avenue and Church Road sent a child to the hospital for a precautionary check up. The others occurred near Nelson and Wonderland Park and near the Parks Highway and Weber.
"Completely unrelated to the hit and run. Initially we thought exactly what you guys thought, but when we got on scene they just happened to be all at the same time. We are investigating hit and run accident," said Sgt. Bill Rapson.
All three accidents were reported around the same time in the same area. Sgt. Rapson visited each accident site to see if they were related, and when he determined that they were unrelated he pursued the driver of the Chevy Silverado that hit a Dodge Ram near Nicola Avenue and fled the scene.
"When the roads are icy and snow covered, slow down. Drive as the conditions allow you to drive. That seems like it's a constant thing that we keep saying over an over again but it's a good refresher," said Rapson.
Rapson has served the Wasilla Police Department since 2006. If anyone has any information regarding the hit and run at the intersection of Church Road and Nicola Avenue, please contact the Wasilla Police Department at (907) 352-5401.
WASILLA- At approximately 4:30pm, a series of car wrecks occured after road conditions worsened and the daylight faded. Three accidents were reported near the Parks Highway. Originally it was thought that the three accidents were caused by the same motorist, but there is no evidence to support that. A 2015 black Dodge pick up was struck on the driver’s side by a silver Chevrolet Silverado after running a stop sign on Nicola Avenue, just off of the Parks Highway on Church Road. After the driver of the Silverado t-boned the Dodge, he went into the ditch and drove off. Pursuers were unable to keep up with the driver, who also left his tailgate in the ditch.
No comments were available from responding officers concerning the other accidents at this time. Please contact the Wasilla Police Department at 352-5401. The driver of the struck Dodge had her daughter taken to Mat Su Regional Hospital as a precaution, though they believe there is no serious injury.
“I’m just thankful my daughter is okay,” said their mother.
