Vacancy announced for Borough Assembly District 6

With the resignation of Mat-Su Borough Assemblyman Jesse Sumner effective January 16, there is now a vacancy for the District 6 seat.

The Assembly will appoint a person to fill the remainder of the seat until the next regular election, which is November 2023.

To be considered, eligible candidates must be a qualified borough voter, be a borough resident and a resident in the territory embraced within the assembly district for one year immediately prior to the appointment.

District 6 includes the North Palmer and North Wasilla areas including: Hatcher Pass, Wasilla Fishhook, Schrock, and Memory Lake. If interested candidates are unsure if their residence meets the criteria, they should contact the Mat-Su Borough Clerk’s Office.

To be considered, qualified candidates must fill out an application and return it to the MSB Clerk’s office, beginning Tuesday, January 17.

The successful candidate will be required to file a Financial Disclosure Form with the Alaska Public Offices Commission within 30 days of appointment.
