Valley athletes advance to state swim finals

JUNEAU — Eight Valley swimmers qualified for the finals during the first day of the ASAA/First National Bank State Swimming and Diving Championships in Juneau, Friday.

Half that group moved into the finals of multiple individual events. Palmer’s Katie Stark, Naomi Graham and Daniel Jackson finished in the top 8 of a pair of events. Colony’s Alex Kessler also moved forward in two events.

Stark and Graham will each swim in both the girls’ 50 and 100 freestyle races. Jackson qualified in the boys’ 50 and 100 freestyle. Kessler will swim in the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke during the finals.

Palmer’s Noelle Graham (girls’ 100 butterfly), and Colony’s Sierra Kinworthy (girls’ 500 freestyle), Zach Bloom (boys’ 200 freestyle) and Joseph Anderson (boys’ 100 breastroke) also qualified for the finals.

The Palmer girls 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams and Colony’s boys’ 200 freestyle relay team will also compete in the finals.

Finals begin Saturday at 11 a.m. at Dimond Park Aquatic Center in Juneau.
