Mat-Su prep track and field athletes opened the 2023 season at the Big C Relays over the weekend at The Dome in Anchorage.
Colony’s Christopher Cayson led Valley athletes with a first-place finish in the boys high jump.
Palmer’s Arthur Merritt placed second in the boys 300-meter hurdles. Colony’s Kylie Wallace finished second in the girls 100 hurdles. Redington’s Mya Campbell was the runner-up in the girls long jump.
Wallace was also fifth in the 300 hurdles for the Colony girls. Ella Hopkins (800) and Calista Ousley (shot put) placed third, Caroline Mitchell (100) was fourth, Morgan Ainsworth (800) and Oceana Stephens-Favand (high jump) were sixth, and Kathleen Riese placed eighth for the Colony girls.
Palmer’s Avery Johnson was third in the girls high jump and Abby Pettit finished sixth in the high jump. Wasilla’s Dominique Bodle was seventh in both the girls shot put and discus.
Matthew Rongitsch was second in the 3,200 for the Knights. Tobias Buchanan placed eighth in both the boys 800 and 3,200. Kodi Swanson was seventh in the 300 hurdles.
Parker Glasetter was sixth in the boys discus and eighth in the shot put for the Moose. Redington’s Myles Campbell placed fourth in the boys high jump.
