A handful of local athletes competed in the ASAA/First National Bank State Tennis Championships at Alaska Club East in Anchorage.
The mixed doubles division featured an all-Valley match on the consolation side of the bracket. Wasilla’s Kaitlyn Hample and Caleb McElvain beat Palmer’s Shyla Phillips and Parker Johnson 5-4, 0-4, 1-0. Hample and McElvain were eliminated by Lathrop’s Marais Anderson and Leif Anderson in the second round. Phillips and Johnson beat Isaac Hill and Isabella Reyes-Boyer of Juneau-Douglas to move into the match with their Wasilla rivals.
Both duos finished 1-2 in matches.
Colony’s Wyatt Gordon won a match in the boys singles division, beating Lathrop’s Wyatt Beardsley 5-3, 4-0. Gordon was 1-2 overall. Colony’s Jake Wagner also qualified in the division and finished 0-2.
Wasilla’s Jordyn Wold and Savannah Littlechief earned a 5-4, 4-2 win over Dimond’s Tabisth Follows and Isabella Carroll in the girls doubles consolation rounds. Wold and Littlechief were 1-2 overall.
Colony’s Ethan St. John and Seth Wargo competed in the boys doubles and were 0-2. Colony’s Emily Crawford was in the girls singles division, and finished 0-2.
